CONDITIONAL VS. UNCONDITIONAL LAUGHTER: KNOWING THE DIFFERENCE COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE!

While it may not be life-or-death worthy, understanding the difference between conditional and unconditional laughter is very important if you are trying to harness the power of laughter. The physical and psychological benefits of laughter can not be overstated, but I will try.

Conditional Laughter (Humor-based)
This is the type of laughter that most adults do. You see something funny, you laugh. You hear a joke, you laugh. You are nervous or scared, you laugh. The point is, there is some force or 
condition that happens to you that causes a laughter response.

While any laughter is better than no laughter, conditional laughter relies on that stimulation for the response. In a group setting, using conditional laughter can be a dangerous thing, because what one person finds hilarious, another may find offensive. Laughter should be therapeutic, never hurtful.

Unconditional Laughter (Non-Humor)
Unconditional laughter is how children laugh most of the time. Laughing for the pure pleasure of laughing. Laughing, not because of some conditional stimulus, but just to laugh. For no reason. Really.
